I am Enrico Rubaltelli, and I founded the JDM LAB because I think that it is important to give younger students an opportunity to experience how we do research in the field of judgment and decision-making. I am the PI of the lab and my research interests focus on how emotions impact decision making, risk perception, prosocial behavior, and sustainability. One quote I really like is this \u201c<\/span>I discovered running many years ago and got passionate about it.<\/span><\/i>Running has thought me to focus on what I am doing and that there are no bad runs, they are all like little building blocks that contribute to improve and get better.<\/span>And nothing is better than running in the rain!<\/p>

I am Lorella Lotto, full professor at the Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialization (University of Padua). My research interests are related to the perception and communication of risk and the cognitive and emotional mechanisms involved in the processes of judgement and decision making. The world of psychology has always fascinated me and one of the most interesting aspects in the field of decision psychology is the study of the factors that influence our choices. The more we like to think of ourselves as coherent and rational people, the more we will be amazed to see how our judgments and decisions are actually influenced by unconscious factors, small variations in the context of which we are not even aware, but which are able to modify our judgments and our behaviours. Knowledge of these mechanisms can be a valuable tool to help people choose the best for themselves and for the community. I love art, interior and design objects, in particular Scandinavian design, essential and elegant, which refers to the balance between man and nature.<\/p>

I enthusiastically joined the lab in February 2022, eager to experience firsthand what conducting research truly means, and I was delighted to find such a collaborative and warm environment there. I\u2019ve always been interested in understanding what drives people toward pro-environmental behavior, and I began exploring this topic by writing my Bachelor's dissertation on the role of message framing in green neuromarketing, followed by my Master's dissertation, which investigated how knowing what others do in a situation can influence our own decisions. I am currently pursuing a PhD project focused on the psychological predictors of pro-environmental behaviors, particularly in the fast fashion industry. I\u2019m currently a PhD student at the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology at the University of Padova. I am interested in how people make decisions, especially ones concerning morality. I completed my undergraduate and master's studies in psychology at the Faculty of Media and Communications in Belgrade, with an Erasmus exchange at Leiden University. I then specialized in statistics at the National Research University in Moscow (HSE). Thanks to the Junior Researcher Programme, I learned a lot about the lab and Professor Enrico Rubaltelli, which led me to join this fantastic team!<\/span><\/p>

I aim to understand values from various perspectives, as I am also a transactional analyst under supervision and a practitioner of Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEEL), a program that integrates emotional regulation and ethical discussions into schools. Outside of academia, I\u2019m part of the circus, because, like the lab, it offers a strong, task-oriented community. I am a big nature person, I like climbing, hiking, camping, and plants. I'm Mariam Chichua. When I first joined the JDM LAB I was navigating some defining decisions in my own life and found myself increasingly drawn to understanding how people make choices.
What I didn't expect when I joined was to also find a community, and that has been just as\nimportant as the research itself.<\/p>

My background is in medical humanities<\/em>, and my work focuses on how people navigate health\nchoices and what shapes their engagement with care. I am drawn to questions that sit at the\nboundary between research and practice, and between academia and the organisations trying to\nmake healthcare work better.<\/p>

Outside of research, I am what you might call a serial hobbyist - deeply passionate about\nsomething new on a regular basis, currently involving kayaking, nail art, embroidery, and\ncooking for people I love.<\/p>

I conduct research on anomalistic beliefs, which are belief systems that defy conventional understanding of the world (e.g., conspiracy theories, pseudoscience). During my academic journey, I studied economics and marketing, deepening my knowledge of decision theory and consumer behavior, and then obtained a PhD in Methods and Models for Economic Decisions in 2024 (University of Insubria). My dissertation investigated the role of cognitive biases in conspiracy beliefs through experimental paradigms. Currently, I do research on fake news, specifically concentrating on the perception of news accuracy, but I also work on the role of naturalness perception in medical decision-making and on the empirical research methodologies of anomalistic psychology. I am currently a member of the Managing Committee of the International Association for Research in Economic Psychology (IAREP) and I am also passionate about science communication: I manage the project \"Non \u00e8 la Zebra\" (@nonelazebra on Instagram), which explores behavioral sciences and decision-making processes both online and in live events!
